EXPANDING APPRAISAL HORIZONS

New niche markets translate into growth opportunities

As outlined in our 2006 annual report, Zaio is targeting 12 distinct vertical market groups that account for over $20 billion in annual revenues in the United States alone. Doug Vincent, Zaio’s Managing Director, Corporate Development recently identified yet another revenue opportunity for Zaio and its network of appraisers: legal and court valuations.

“On any given day, there are dozens of cases before the courts that require a credible valuation of property: tax appeals, divorce proceedings, bankruptcies,” says Vincent, “and both sides need appraiser representation. Opposing attorneys and/or the judge qualify the appraisers involved by ascertaining their experience, licensing and frequently by determining the number of homes each appraiser has inspected and appraised in the subject’s market area. This is often where the true expert is identified, and it is their expertise that is considered most reliable. A Zaio appraiser, who has inspected and analyzed the values of all the properties within their zone(s), would have immediate and potentially uncontested credibility in the court’s eyes.”

This is yet another potential revenue source for appraisers, who can capitalize on this opportunity by marketing themselves to the legal profession.
